With over 250 million pounds of historic uranium production, Wyoming stands as the top uranium-producing state in the U.S. Since the 1990s, the majority of this production has come from In-Situ Recovery (ISR) operations—a method recognized for its efficiency and minimal surface impact.
Wyoming has been a prolific producer since the 1950s, with at least 10 ISR facilities having collectively produced tens of millions of pounds of U₃O₈, reinforcing the state’s role as a cornerstone of the domestic uranium supply chain.
Adding to its advantages, Wyoming is a Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Agreement State, meaning the state oversees uranium permitting directly. This “one-window” permitting process streamlines approvals, enabling progressive, safe, and efficient ISR project development without the need for separate federal NRC involvement.
